Kick-off meeting in Brussels

Body

The PHABLABS 4.0 project started officially on the first of December 2016. On the 14th of December, all Photonics partners, the pilot Fab Labs, the Fab Lab advisory panel and the Gender Action Team participated to the kick-off meeting in Brussels.

At the kick-off meeting, the scope of the project and the points of attention were highlighted for all actors. A special focus was given to the development of the Photonics Workshops and the Photonics Challenger projects. In this respect, the workshop and challenger project templates were discussed in detail and a concrete example of an elaborated photonics workshop was presented.

In this project, special attention will be given to the creation of gender-sensitive material for the “Photonics Workshops” and “Photonics Challenger Projects” such that they gain the interest of girls and have a lasting impact on their personal relationship to science, technology and Fab Labs. For this the developers are supported by a Gender Team.

Prof. Averil Macdonald from WISE gave a presentation about the gender action plan that must be taken into account during the design phase.

According to the planning of PHABLABS 4.0 project, the first 6 months, 33 Photonics Workshops and 11 Photonics Challengers will be developed by all partners. As soon as those workshops and Photonics Challengers will be ready, they will be published here on this website.
